Celebrating Excellence, Building Pride, One Student at a Time

Welcome to the Cougar Roar, your source for celebrating the amazing accomplishments, talents, and moments that make our Cougar Pride shine! Each edition will highlight the students, staffulty, and events that make our school community something to be proud of.

Principal's Message:

Dear Cougar Families,

Homecoming week was full of Cougar pride! I loved seeing our students participate in the spirit days, cheer for one another, and enjoy the dance with their friends. Thank you to SGA, our staffulty, and the many people who gave their time to make the week memorable for our students.

I am excited to carry that energy into our first Connectivity Day Friday. Students will come together for an athletic or performing arts showcase, or for trivia. I want them to see more of the talent and opportunities all around them at University, spend time with classmates, and discover new ways to get involved. Homecoming showed us how much our Cougars enjoy being together, and I am looking forward to giving them more opportunities to build those connections.

Our teachers and students continue to give us so much to celebrate. I am proud of the work highlighted in this edition, including our JROTC cadets’ time with officers from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. There is more ahead for our families to enjoy, too, with Murder on the Orient Express opening next week and our Hispanic Heritage celebration coming in October.

Thank you to the SGA students who create the Cougar Roar and help us share the wonderful things happening at University.

Go Cougars!

Homecoming Review!

Thank you to everyone who dressed up and helped make last week’s Homecoming celebration, “A Night in the 305,” so much fun! It was wonderful to see students showing their school spirit throughout the week.

The celebration continued during lunch each day with activities such as musical chairs and limbo. Students also searched campus for hidden flamingo rubber ducks, which they could exchange with Mrs. Gorberg for full-sized candy bars. Our SGA kept the energy going by playing music during both lunches.

Thank you to our students, staff and SGA for bringing so much enthusiasm to Homecoming Week. We loved seeing our Cougar community celebrate together!

Glow in the Dark Pep Rally

Students came together at our Homecoming pep rally to cheer on the football team and celebrate their Cougar pride! The energy in the gym grew with performances from Cheer, the Golden Cougars and the Majorettes. Students also joined in games of musical chairs and wig snatch, bringing plenty of laughter and excitement to the celebration.

Thank you to everyone who performed, participated and cheered from the stands. Your enthusiasm helped make the pep rally a memorable part of Homecoming Week!

Celebrations

On Saturday, Sept. 26, students showed up in style for our annual Homecoming dance, “A Night in the 305”! The evening gave students a chance to celebrate together, take photos at the photo booths and dance to music from DJs in both the courtyard and the gym. Guests also enjoyed food from Chick-fil-A and Anything But Bundt Cakes.

Thank you to the parents, teachers, PTSA members and students who helped plan, organize and support the dance. Your time and effort helped create a memorable night for our Cougar community. We hope everyone who attended had a wonderful time!

Clubs and Organizations

The Spanish Honor Society invites students, families and staff to join us for Hispanic Heritage Night on Oct. 15! This event is an opportunity to come together, learn about Hispanic cultures and explore the cuisines that are part of their rich traditions.

We hope you’ll join us to celebrate the many cultures, histories and contributions of Hispanic communities. Everyone is welcome, and we look forward to seeing you there!

UHS Football Team

A big shoutout to our football team for their Homecoming win against Freedom High School! The Cougars brought excitement to the field and gave our school community another reason to celebrate during Homecoming Week.

With this victory, the team moves to 4-1 for the season. Congratulations to our players and coaches on their hard work and strong start. Keep it up, Cougars!

ROTC Car Wash

JROTC conducted a car wash this Saturday to raise money for our upcoming Marine Corps Birthday Ball celebration that they've been planning since the end of last school year. We were pleasantly surprised when a couple of OC Sheriff's Office's finest stopped by to show their support. The interaction was positive and left our students motivated and inspired to continue pursuing excellence.

Staffulty Shout-Out

Recognizing the incredible teachers and staff who help our students succeed every day.

Please join us in congratulating Mr. Barton on being crowned our faculty Homecoming King! We’re excited to recognize him as part of this year’s Homecoming celebration and share a few fun facts you may not know about him.

Mr. Barton has met John Williams, the composer behind the music of Star Wars and Jurassic Park. He also played in a steel drum band in college and has even appeared on the cover of a magazine! Congratulations, Mr. Barton, and thank you for joining in the Homecoming fun!
