What is SGA?
Student Government Association is a co-curricular course that offers an opportunity for students to build leadership skills through community service, event organization, and the opportunity for leadership roles. SGA works collaboratively with school administration, faculty, and student organizations to improve the school environment and promote a positive, inclusive community.
Eligibility
- Members must maintain a 3.0 unweighted G.P.A. with no D’s or F's at any time while they are a member of Student Government.
- Members will be placed on probation if they do not meet grade requirements.
- Members will be removed from SGA if there is no improvement during the probation period.
- Members cannot exceed 4 unexcused absences a quarter
- Members will be placed on probation if they do not meet attendance requirements
- Members will be removed from SGA if there is no improvement during the probation period.
- Each quarter, members are required to complete a log that documents specific:
- Community service hours
- Attendance at school events
- Committee collaboration
- If members are involved in any Disciplinary Action by the school or police, they will be subject to immediate removal from SGA.
- This includes Suspensions, Referrals, Attendance Contracts and Arrests.
- Members must be in accordance with the rules and regulations of OCPS Student Code of Conduct at University High School at all times.
How can you join?
SGA will begin distributing applications after Spring Break (3/23), and applications are to be submitted on paper by 4/17 by 2:20 pm. Applications later than this date and time will not be accepted. Paper applications can be brought to room 14-102 or dropped off to the front desk. Once all applications are received, students will be contacted to sign up for a mandatory interview.
Why join SGA?
- Organizes school events, activities, and spirit initiatives (pep rallies, Homecoming, etc.)
- Promotes school pride and positive school culture (Organize themes for football games and rewards for positive behavior)
- Supports community service and charitable projects (Thanksgiving Food Drive, Book Drive, etc.)
- Develops leadership, communication, and teamwork skills (Formal Meetings, Working with Committees, etc.)
- Run for class or student officer (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer)
