UHS Attendance and Tardy Procedures

Parents, it is crucial that your students attend school consistently. Ensuring that your child attends school at least 90% of the time is one or if not the greatest responsibility that our families have as you support your high schooler. Please make sure you review our Attendance and Tardy procedures with your student before school starts so that you know what to expect.

First School Advisory Council Meeting of the School Year

Our first School Advisory Council (SAC) meeting of the school year will take place on Monday, August 18th at 6:00 pm in our Media Center. If you are interested in becoming a voting member of our SAC this year OR if you are just interested in learning how our school operates, please plan to attend. An invitation with the agenda for this meeting will be coming within the next week. Keep your eye out for that!

Tardy Sweeps and SmartPass

Tardy sweeps will begin on Day 4 (August 14th)

There is a 2-minute grace period after the tardy bell, during which teachers should continue to take accurate attendance. After this grace period, the administration will gather students still in the halls to issue their tardy referrals. Students will be marked as "tardy" if they arrive more than 6 minutes after the bell.

If a student needs to leave the classroom for any reason, including during transitions, they must have a SmartPass. It is both the students and teachers responsibility to ensure the student has a SmartPass This will prevent the administration from interrupting class to verify if a student was permitted to leave and will also prevent the student from receiving a referral for being out without a pass. No verbal passes!

Students will return to class after receiving a tardy referral. When they enter, students will use the pink copy of the referral as their pass. Teachers will check that copy for the date to ensure it is the one they just received. This will take place school-wide, every day, every period.

We will not be responding to emails for change requests.

Elective change requests are subject to availability and not guaranteed. We are prioritizing schedule changes for duplicate classes, missing periods, and changing the level of course taken.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through the process. Have a great weekend! We can’t wait to see everyone at Meet the Teacher on Thursday!
