CONTIO LAUREATA

Contio Laureata or “An Assembly of Honored Scholars” is the Latin motto of University High School and the name of this spring event which honors outstanding student achievements. Our unique motto is composed of three significant elements.

The first element is Assembly. This recognizes the value of the community in the achievement of scholarship. Learning in a setting of like purposed people is key to the rigorous examination of ideas and of understanding. Without the mirror of other views, learning ceases to be relevant and inquiry becomes self-aggrandizing.

The second element is Honor. This embraces the ideas of not only the chosen worthy few, but adherence to a commitment of critical thinking and the honest report of academic work. To be honored then is to honor the path of excellence and integrity.

The third and last element of the motto is Scholar. There are many reasons for an educational institution to exist. None is more important than to preserve scholarship and academic inquiry. It is through scholars and their studies that the knowledge and wisdom of each generation is passed down and used by the next.

Contio Laureata or “An Assembly of Honored Scholars” is not simply a motto or an annual event. It is our mission statement: To produce an Assembly of the Best, most Honor Scholars.

Honor Roll: Weighted GPAs will be recognized as follows:

Summa Cum Laude (with highest Honor)         4.8 GPA and above

Magna Cum Laude (with Great Honor)             4.50 to 4.79 GPA

Cum Laude (with Honor)                                4.00 to 4.49 GPA

Cum Dignitate (with Distinction)                      3.50 to 3.99 GPA

 

OCPS 4.0 Honor Graduate: Students with an unweighted GPA of 4.0

University Scholar Award: Student ranked third in Senior Class*

Contio Laureata Second in Class: Student ranked second in Senior Class*

Contio Laureata First in Class: Student ranked first in Senior Class*

 

This year’s Contio Laureata Ceremony will be held on Monday, April 30th at 6PM in the Patrick F. Culler Performing Arts Center.  

Students are to dress business casual/professional (no shorts or flip flops) and need to arrive in the Café by 5PM. Doors to the PAC will open at 5:30PM.
   
Students are allowed to bring up to two (2) guests due to seating capacity.
